A great looking touring kayaks that can cover distance decently.

the Wilderness Systems Pamlico 140 is my favorite kayak model , in asethetics and performacne considered. It is also my kayak of choice, and measures in at 14' long, 28" wide, and 14" deep.Having paddled this kayak extensivley, I have found it to be a good performer. In flatwater, the kayak can track in a straight line and has a decent cruising speed. However, being a large kayak, it takes quite a bit of effort to accelerate the craft from a dead stop, but once it has some speed going for it, the kayak becomes easier to handle and faster to accelerate. The kayak tops out at about 6mph, and can go about 4mph in cruising speed. It is able to turn with simple sweep strokes, and verticle sprint strokes and touring strokes are enough to make it go in almost a perfect straight line. I have found a more compact kayak is easier to handle and accelerate, but, on the plus side, the Pamlico 140 is roomy and has alot of space for gear stowage. The Gen2 Polyethylene is strong and very long lasting, as long as you store it out of direct sunlight for permanant storage. The Pamlico 140 is fast enough to keep up with an expedition kayak, but it is a tad harder to accelerate. This kayak has good manuverability, tracking, initial stability, and speed. In rougher waters, such as ocean swells, the kayak bounces around quite a bit in waves, but it still has a decent enough amount of secondary stability that it can stay upright in rough water. This kayak's secondary stability is best if you keep moving through waves, as with most touring kayaks. Overall a well engineered touring kayak that is very stylish with it's extended cockpit and deck grooves.
